Some specific surveys and studies of native bird species found in Taranaki have been completed, these include;

New Zealand Falcon

Waitaanga Bird Survey

Over a two-year period from June 2005 to May 2007 a bird survey was undertaken in the Waitaanga area. The aim of this survey was to determine the presence, distribution and estimation of the abundance of birds in the area.

On completion of the surveys two reports were produced, and distributed to key organisations and to local personnel that supported the survey. The reports are available for download;
